University student Miyagawa and his younger sister Sumiko head deep into the mountains to look for Masako, a girl student who has gone camping and her friend. At a valley stream they are shown the way to the campground by children who are fishing. They go to the campground but no one is there. After Sumiko falls asleep in the tent Masako and her friend come back and knocks it over but Sumiko continues to sleep. Everyone laughs. They gather water and fire wood and begin a cook-out. Following Miyagawa’s lead, they sing a “hiking song” and enjoy walking through the beautiful lakes and forest. This film is thought to be a Ministry of Railroads PR piece introducing the Five Lakes area and Fuji scenery, but it is also enjoyable as a musical.
