A program featuring the works of director Teshigahara Hiroshi, who served as chief juror at the first Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival and died suddenly in April of this year, has been added to the festival. Films include Tokyo 1958, an experimental examination of Tokyo from a variety of different angles, produced by the Cinema 58 collective; a search for his father Teshigahara Sofu’s sculpture in Vita; Ako—White Morning, an episode from an omnibus film featuring memorable music from Takemitsu Toru and a screenplay by Abe Kobo; and Jose Torres Part II, a warts-and-all sports documentary recording Puerto Rican pro boxer Jose Torres’ bout for the light heavyweight title. A collection of rarely screened titles from the body of work of this great director.
