2014-11-14 | YIDFF “311 Documentary Film Archive” Is Here!

This fall, we are pleased to announce the launch of YIDFF’s “311 Documentary Film Archive.” The archive will collect, catalogue and preserve documentary films and related materials about the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11, 2011. This archive aims to act as a referential site for further screening opportunities of those films as well as for future learning about the disaster and the process of recovery.

YIDFF has continued to introduce documentary films about the 311 disaster in its “Cinema with Us” program over the past two editions. Having access to documentaries on this topic, there have been many inquiries about those films from around the world. In order to further publicize information on these works and increase their screening opportunities, we decided to establish a referential archive of those films in the Yamagata Documentary Film Library and launch a bilingual online catalog/database and a website.
