Texas Tenor: The Illinois Jacquet Story
Dir: Arthur Elgort
USA / 1991-2 / 81 min / YIDFF ’93 International Competition

Illinois Jacquet is one of the few saxophone jazz players to carry on the wonderful tradition of jazz. The director wanted to make a work about an American pursuing his dream. This a straightforward film about music.

January 16 (Tue) 17:30 (single screening)
Last Farewell USSR
Dir: Alexander Rodnyansky
UKRAINE / 1994 / 60 min / YIDFF ’95 International Competition, FIPRESCI Prize

Summer 1994. The last soldiers of the former Soviet Army leave Eastern Germany. A film about the problem of dealing with 100 years of Russian history, revolution, anti-Semitism, Germans, and justice. The fate of the soldiers reflects all the wounds and unsettled accounts of the time we live in—after the balance of terror, the terror which has become unpredictable.
