Sadly, in February 1999, Kawamoto Teruo, who spent much of his life
as an activist for Minamata Disease, passed away. He fought Chisso,
the company responsible for the mercury poisoning which caused Minamata
Disease. Kawamoto carried on despite indifference on behalf of national
and local government officials who turned a blind eye to the company
for many years. Although many people praised Kawamoto's activism,
he spent the later years of his life in loneliness. This video speaks
as his will.
