In 1960 Ivens was
invited by the Instituto Cubano del Arte y Industria Cinematograficos
(ICAIC) to give courses and lectures, and to make a film with the
students of the institute. Carnet de Viaje is a filmed letter
to Charles Chaplin in which Joris Ivens shows the benefits of the
Cuban revolution led by Fidel Castro. It is an impressionistic, poetic
film, and lives on as an early report on the status of the revolution.
